This picture might not mean much to you, but for Porter, it was his #1 focus for about three months. Let me rewind....
Our neighbors' girls have a Gator and they have always been gracious to let Porter ride it whenever he wanted. But Porter really wanted one of his own and we debated about it because it's a pretty big "toy" if you know what I mean. :) So, Billy and I decided it could be a good lesson in having a goal and working hard to get it. We told Porter he could get the Gator, but he would have to work hard and save his money until he had enough to buy it. We told him it was expensive and that when you want to buy something you have to wait until you have the money to pay for it. So we made this "gator jar" and we kept it on the kitchen table. Porter did odd jobs around the house (watered my plants, made his bed, picked up the playroom, etc) and he got money for the work. He also had generous grandparents who would contribute to the cause to help things along. :) Porter was super excited about the progress. We counted the money every day. He looked at the jar every time he sat down to eat. He could.not.wait.
And then, the day finally came to BUY his Gator! He was so excited he couldn't contain himself. We went to Toys 'R Us and luckily, they were "in" on our plan. They took his jar, counted the money and excitedly told him he had enough to buy the Gator! (I had come ahead of time and paid for it and had them put it together for us.) So, they told Porter to wait at the front of the store and they would bring it to him. Well, the excitement kept building and I think everyone in the store was smiling because of the look on Porter's face when he finally saw his "very own Gator". It was PRICELESS.
We have actually had the Gator for several weeks now and it was worth every dime! Porter delivers the newspapers to our neighbors' front doors and we go on walks every morning and evening.
We are so glad he "Got His Gator"!!!!!
