Proud to be an American

We went to the most amazing Memorial Day service at church yesterday. If you didn't leave feeling patriotic, you were missing a heart! It inspired us to go buy a new flag and Porter helped hang it. We taught him how to salute and one day he will know why.
We are honored that Porter has the example of BOTH his grandfathers serving our country. Poppy and Pop Pop both served in Vietnam and we are grateful for their courage as well as the courage of every individual who risks their life for our freedom!

We wanted to share the impactful message our church shared about the meaning behind the folding of our flag. We hope it gives you hope and pride like it did us:

The first fold of the flag is a symbol of life.

The second fold of the flag is a symbol of the people's belief in the eternal life.

The third fold of the flag is made in honor and remembrance of the Veteran departing ranks who gave a portion of life for the defense of the country to attain peace throughout the world.

The fourth fold of the flag represents the people's weaker nature. For as American citizens trusting in God, it is to Him the people turn to in times of peace as well as in times of war for His divine guidance.

The fifth fold of the flag is a tribute to the country, for in the words of Stephen Decauter, “Our country, in dealing with the other countries, may she always be right, but it is still our country, right or wrong."

The sixth fold of the flag is for where people's hearts lie. It is with hearts that people pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

The seventh fold of the flag is a tribute to the Armed Forces, for it is through them that the people protect the country and flag against all enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of the Republic.

The eighth fold of the flag is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death, that people might see the light of day, and to honor one's mother, for whom it flies on Mother’s Day.

The ninth fold of the flag is a tribute to womanhood, for it has been through their faith, love, loyalty and devotion the character of the men and women who have made the country great molded.

The tenth fold of the flag is a tribute to father, for he too, has given his sons and daughters for the defense of the country since he or she was first born.

The eleventh fold of the flag, in the eyes of Hebrew citizens, represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon and glorifies, in their eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

The twelfth fold of the flag, in the eyes of a Christian citizen, represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in their eyes, God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.

Upon the thirteenth and final fold of the flag, the stars are uppermost in remembrance of the United States' national motto, “In God We Trust.”

Slumber Party

Last week, Porter enjoyed a slumber party with his great grandfather! We spent the night at Grandad's and enjoyed a simple, peaceful evening on the farm! It was absolutely perfect weather and Grandad was the best host!
We brought a cake to celebrate our night!
And Grandad had a warm welcome for us with freshly-picked wildflowers (my favorite)
Porter got to ride all over the farm with Grandad and Lavell
We looked for frogs and fed the catfish
A spring day on the farm would not be complete without a ride on the tire swing
We watched the martins fly in and out of their fancy two-story birdhouse
And we found freshly laid wood duck eggs :)
They were still warm!
then we came inside for a "rest"
After a snack we were back out at Uncle Dave's pond looking for snakes and whatever else we could find
And Porter's FAVORITE part....wading in the waterfall!
We couldn't get him back in the golf cart!
And Porter could not resist "pretending" Dylan's four-wheeler was his own. Maybe one day....
Thanks for the fun memories, Grandad!

Queen for the Day

That's what my card said from Billy and Porter this morning. I definitely felt like a queen today and honestly, I feel like a queen every day. I am SO extremely blessed to be Porter's Mommy and I am honored to fulfill that role. I am thankful for the love and support from my husband so that I can do what my heart tells me to do every day....be "just a mom". Today my boys spoiled me with gift cards and flowers but the best gift came when I made Porter a snack and he said "Mommy's a good Mommy" out of the blue! Nope...doesn't get better than that!
I REALLY DO LOVE BEING A MOM!
Happy Mother's Day to all the amazing moms in my life!
